OUR HISTORY
Over 40 years of development.
Index Braille started as a university project to develop a braille type writer with copy function in 1979. The inspiration to develop braille printers came from Mr Björn Löfstedt’s mother who became blind at the age of 32. Supported by Swedish Handicap organization, the project was successful. It was then ‘Polar Print Production’ (later “Index Braille AB”) was founded by Mr Björn Löfstedt and Mr Torvald Lundqvist in 1982. The first embossers were produced in Björns garage.
The path to becoming a global player was not without challenges. From our humble beginnings in 1984 to the introduction of the groundbreaking Everest-D V1 in 1992, our journey has been marked by relentless innovation. We introduced the first double-sided small printer, the Everest-D, and have continued to lead the way with features like double-sided braille embossing, sheet feeding for cut-sheet paper, and more. In 2016, our commitment to innovation reached new heights with the release of the V5 embosser line. This family of embossers not only takes the lead in braille technology but also emphasizes user-friendliness. With features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, increased speed, and remote support, V5 embossers represent the pinnacle of accessible technology. Developing with our technology over the years has helped us to continually move forward. So we in the end, can help others.
